With Home Ownership Comes the Costs

A home restoration is something few of us think about as renters. It isn’t until we become home owners that we realize there are more places for our money to disappear than we ever imagined. One such cost is necessary plumbing upgrades, particularly in older houses. By the time you add up everything spent on materials, and take into account the different fixtures and pipes, you could be in the whole for a good chunk of change. Here are some of the costs associated with more common repairs.

1.) Toilet Repairs or Replacements- Eventually, a toilet is going to need to be replaced. Often times when purcgasing an older home, it may look like the toilet is as old as the house itself. Fortunately, this repair isn’t overly expensive. By the time you factor in costs of materials and the new toilet, it should be in the $200 to $400 range.

2.) Sink Replacement- There are a couple of different ways to go about a sink replacement. A porcelain sink is perhaps a little more swanky, but many consider a stainless steel sink to be the more practical of the two options. This repair will generally cost anywhere from $550 to almost $900.

3.) Replacing a Bathtub- As you may have guessed, this repair is going to cost a little more. Like everything else, you are going to pay more for quality and there are certainly many high end bathttubs. For a good, reliable, named brand battub, yiou are probably looking at $1,000-$2,000.

Bathroom repairs are simply a fact of life when taking on home ownership. The responsibility lies on you to upgrade all of your appliances and to much sure your plumbing runs unimpeded. Be sure to shop around online before hiring someone to do the work. The most reliable referral is genuine customer feedback.
