Home Staging Tips

When you are trying to sell your home, it’s important to showcase your property in the best possible light. That’s where staging comes in. Staging is the process where you make minor changes to your home’s decor in order to get potential buyers interested in purchasing your home. Following are some tips that can help you to successfully stage your home and make a sale.

  1. Move as much of your existing furniture as possible. The idea is to have the living space more uncluttered, so that prospective buyers can envision their own belongings in the home.
  2. Clear off counters of items such as mail and magazines. Reducing clutter also makes a home feel more open and spacious.
  3. Your home should smell as good as it looks. It’s not enough to use air fresheners or light candles. If your home is carpeted, have the carpet professionally cleaned prior to an open house. Air vents should be cleaned as well.
  4. Say no to cigarette smoke. Many buyers won’t even consider a home if they know the owners smoke. If you’re not ready to kick the habit, at least smoke outside during the selling process.
  5. Replace dated door handles, cabinet pulls and light fixtures. These are inexpensive changes that can keep a home from looking old as opposed to classic.
  6. Turn on the lights. A well-lit home draws in potential buyers. Opening curtains and blinds and letting in natural light is also ideal.
  7. If you plan to paint your interior walls, paint them in a neutral color. This makes it easier for a potential buyer to imagine how they would decorate the space. Neutral colors also impart the light, bright feeling you want to convey.

By presenting a comfortable and clean living space, the right buyer will be impressed to make an offer and you’ll be on the road to a successful sale!
