Buying your first home can be a scary, emotional, frustrating event. It’s a huge investment for anyone to make. Having help along the way is essential to keep the stress levels as low as possible. Here are a few tips to help you on your journey to becoming a homeowner.
Get pre-approved! Getting pre-approved before you ever look at house will let you know how much you can afford. If you fall in love with a house before you get pre-approved only to find out you can not afford that house, that is a stress that can be avoided. Pre-approval can make the actual approval process much smoother and quicker.
Find a Realtor who you are comfortable with. Talk with several, do not go with the first one you come across. If you call a Realtor to set up an appointment and the Realtor does not call you back within a reasonable time frame, usually an hour or two, call another Realtor. Your time is just as precious as theirs. You do not want a Realtor with whom you can not communicate with, or one that is hard to pin down. It is a good chance the Realtor will be that way when you are ready to look at houses.
Bring a camera with you to every showing. Take pictures of everything including around the outside. After you look at so many houses, they tend to run together. This way you know what features were in the house that you liked and what was in it that you did not.
If you find a house that you really love, do not look at anymore, go with that house. The reason for this is, if that house has everything you are looking for, you can continue looking and potentially lose that house to someone else.
